Giver Conventions

The giver does not have as many opportunities for giving signals as the taker does because she is required to follow suit if possible. However, giver does have a few important signals and conventions of her own.

The giver often leads the taker through a hand by showing him which suit to attack next. The giver warns the taker not to continue leading a given suit.

After the opening the giver tries to figure out which suit she wants to come down to for her last few cards. Sometimes this is an easy task. After the taker shows a singleton spade in the opening it is quite straightforward for the giver to figure out that she would like to come down to her three remaining high spades.

Then she pitches in such a way as to make this come about.
